The Big Show crew has been using Apple Macintosh computers since 1985. Our writing is done on Macs. Our website is produced with a Mac. The JB&B albums are digitally mastered using Macs (even the cover packaging is Mac-made). We're a buncha Mac kinda guys, plain and simple. We think you should be too.

"But isn't Apple about to go out of business?" Hardly. The company has recently made some bold moves to improve its financial health and expand its market share (which has begun to grow again after months of well-publicized shrinkage). Apple's back in the black for 1998, and has just introduced the iMac: a new, low-cost machine that's internet ready right out of the box and comes in a truly radical translucent all-in-one case. Add in the slick new Powerbook G3 portables and the speed demon desktop Macs, and Apple's got the most advanced lineup in personal computing today.

"But there's hardly any software for the Mac." Keep in mind that more doesn't necessarily mean better -- a lot of the lower-cost PC software on dealer shelves is, to put it bluntly, cheap crap. We would also note that virtually every major application that runs on PC has either a complementary Mac version, or a similar software package that's file-compatible. Industry standards like PageMaker and Photoshop appeared on the Mac first, with PC versions coming later.

"But I have to use a PC at work." You can stick a PC-format disk in a Mac disk drive and read and write DOS and Windows data files to it transparently. You can even buy a software package that emulates an entire Windows computer right on the Mac.

"Stores around here don't carry any Mac stuff." Apple and CompUSA have just entered into a wide-ranging agreement to bring an Apple Store area to every CompUSA in America. Stop by and see what's new. It might surprise you. Apple hs just announced that the iMac is joining the lineup at Best Buy stores across America, too. If there's not a CompUSA in your area, there are several excellent mail-order catalog companies that can deliver whatever you need overnight. These companies even have online counterparts to their catalogs that let you shop right on the web. Drop us a line and we'll give you some names and URLs.

"C'mon...isn't Windows95 just as good as a Mac?" Well, no. Next time you buy a program that has Mac and PC versions on the same disk, take notice of the installation procedure -- the Mac instructions are almost always a fraction of the length of the PC version. The truth is, Macintosh is a simpler, more intuitive, easier-to-use operating system than even the latest and greatest version of Windows. Those who say different either have a vested interest in the PC, or haven't really done a side-by-side comparison. Heck, even Bill Gates himself has admitted that the Mac OS is superior in many ways to Windows. And Macintosh has improved the user experience of people who've never even bought a Mac: many of the "new" features of Windows have been available on the Mac since its introduction in 1984. You could buy a copy...or you could own the original.

Oh, and by the way -- Andy Grove of Intel was quoted in Time Magazine recently as saying that machines like the iMac are the future of personal computing.

Think different, y'all.
